ABOUT
Who runs Shift Tracker UK?
One person, one tracker, and the reasons it is built the way it is. If you are going to keep your shifts and your pay in an app, you should know who made it and what it does not do.

Who makes it
Shift Tracker UK is built and run by Nuno Costa, a UK shift worker. It started as a way to answer one question: do the hours on my payslip match the shifts I actually worked? The answer was sometimes no, and working it out by hand every week was slow and easy to get wrong.
There is no company and no marketing team behind it. It is one person maintaining a tool he uses, and answering the email that comes in.
What it does
- Logs your shifts and leave — start, finish, breaks and the rates that apply, so your own record exists before the payslip arrives.
- Adds up the hours by day, week, fortnight, month and year, with overtime and premiums calculated the way your contract sets them. Hours always read 10h 05m, never a decimal.
- Estimates take-home pay — PAYE, National Insurance, pension and deductions — so the figure is not a surprise on payday.
- Checks a payslip against it (Reconcile, beta). Your payslip PDF is read on our server and is not stored there, and every shift that does not match is listed.
- Exports a salary report as a PDF, and an encrypted backup you can restore.
What it is not
- Not tax or legal advice. It is a checking aid. Your payslip, your contract and HMRC remain the official record.
- Not a payroll service. It does not pay anyone, does not file anything with HMRC, and does not contact your employer.
- Not a rota system for managers. There is no employer portal, no staff scheduling and no duty database. It is for the worker, not the workplace.
- Not ad-free. It is free to use for now and supported by a small advert banner; some features may become paid in future. What is collected, and why, is set out in the privacy notice — that is the version that counts.
How the figures are checked
The PAYE, National Insurance and pension arithmetic is not a rough estimate. The payroll engine was checked line by line against 152 real UK weekly payslips — tax codes, cumulative PAYE, NI, salary-exchange pension — and against real payslip PDFs. Those payslips are private and are not published anywhere, in any form.
Every rule the site quotes comes from the official source and says where it came from: GOV.UK, ACAS or HMRC, with the date it was checked. Nothing on these pages is asserted as the site's own legal opinion, and no example figure is presented as an official rate.
How these pages stay right
Each guide carries the date it was last updated, and the date its official sources were last checked. When a rule changes, the page changes and so does the date. If you find something wrong — a rule that has moved, or a number that does not add up — email and it gets fixed.
Contact
Email shifttracker@mail.uk. Please do not send your payslip or anything else that identifies you or your employer. If you are reporting a problem, the useful details are the dates, the hours and the rate — not your name.
